SailView 2009 Major Components

If you're familiar with Race Analysis 3.1 this is going to be a major change.

We received a lot of good and sometimes painful feedback.  We listened and SailView is the result.

One of the most common comments was 'show me the data on the water!'

LIVE

LIVE is the first component and provides you with a dashboard that you setup the way you want it, save it and it always comes back that way.  You can save multiple configurations for different scenarios.

It also needs to be fast to get going, the last thing you want is to be messing around with software when you are hurrying to the start!  From application launch you are as few as two clicks to up and running.

Here's a link to a short .MP4 video and a screen shot:

ANALYZE

Well you've been sailing around and collected a bunch of data now what do you do with it?

That's the second component, ANALYZE.

When data logging is turned on in LIVE we collect nearly 30 points of data at whatever rate you NMEA hardware can transmit it.  That can be a lot of data points (literally millions!) and sorting with a spread sheet program can be a nightmare.

With ANALYZE you can sort, filter plot both XY and Polar charts, export the data create reports and even post the data to a website.

With the proper data filtering you can click one button and generate polars based on actual data.

Does it do everything?  No, so you can still filter and sort create a report and then export the data.  Once a file is loaded you can export the entire dataset in one of 8 different file formats with as few as four clicks!

Here is a screen shot of a chart showing TWS vs. Elapsed Time and a video of how it was created.

REPLAY

So what else can be done with these millions of data points?  Want to see a 3D replay of the race/practice session?  Do your competitors collect data too?  Include them in the replay and prove you had overlap at the zone!

That's what REPLAY does.  With more than 12 fully animated boat models and the ability to create your own (don't be fooled, its a lot of work but can be done using free tools) there are a lot of options.

And it's not just for replaying real data.  It's possible to create training scenarios too.  Want to teach tactics?  Simulate the data using the included boat simulators and you have a fully interactive 3D teaching environment.

There are multiple camera modes, the ability to turn the wind indicators on or off, draw the 'zone' around the target mark based on the selected boat's LOA etc.

Here is a screen shot and a video showing Rule 13.  The playback runs at 30 FPS but frankly looks crappy here due to the screen capture tools and the low resolution required to save bandwidth.  Clicking image below will give you an idea of the actual display quality.  You could always download the demo and give it a try!

Additional information

We are going to continue to add content and plan to deliver most of the documentation using narrated flash animation.  Keep checking the website.

We'd really like to hear what you think, most of what you've seen has been driven by customer feedback and the more we get the better this will become.  You can email us here of use our feedback page.  Please indicate if you'd like us to respond or if we shouldn't use you comments in FAQs etc and we'll honor your requests.

Thanks.
